Ingredients:

For the bread dough:

  • 400g bread flour
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 50g sugar
  • 7g salt
  • 240ml warm milk
  • 40g unsalted butter, softened

For the custard filling:

  • 300ml milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 50g sugar
  • 20g cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the bread dough:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • Gradually add warm milk and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Add softened butter and continue kneading until well incorporated.
  • Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  1. Prepare the custard filling:
  • In a saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until it’s hot but not boiling.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
  • Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let the custard cool completely.
  1. Assemble the Cream Pan:
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball.
  • Flatten each dough ball into a circle and place a spoonful of custard filling in the center.
  • Gather the edges of the dough and pinch tightly to seal, shaping it into a smooth ball.
  • Place the filled dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each.
  1. Proof and bake:
  • Cover the filled dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let them proof for about 30-45 minutes, or until slightly puffed.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Bake the Cream Pan for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove the Cream Pan from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
  • Dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving.
