Here’s a simple Italian-style tomato sauce recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces (800g) canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well.
  5. Add dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for at least 20-30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  8. If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender to blend it to your desired consistency.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
