Here’s a simple Sri Lankan beef curry recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Sri Lankan curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large pan and sauté onions until golden brown.
  2. Add garlic, ginger, green chilies, and curry leaves. Cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Add Sri Lankan curry powder, chili powder, turmeric powder, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Stir well.
  4. Add beef cubes and brown them on all sides.
  5. Once the beef is browned, add chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
  6. Pour in coconut milk and season with salt. Mix well.
  7. Cover the pan and let it simmer on low heat for about 1-1.5 hours until the beef is tender and the flavors are infused.
  8. Adjust salt and spice levels according to your taste.
  9. Serve the Sri Lankan beef curry with rice or roti.
