Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions:
- In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), broth, and tomato paste.
- Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for at least 1 hour. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavors.
