To prepare Nepali mahi (fish) curry, you can follow this simple recipe:

  • 500g fish fillets (mahseer or any white fish)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts to smoke. Then, reduce the heat.
  3. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
  5. Stir in chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  6. Place the marinated fish fillets into the pan, coating them evenly with the masala. Be gentle to avoid breaking the fillets.
  7. Cover the pan and let it simmer on low heat until the fish is cooked through (about 10-15 minutes).
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve the Nepali mahi curry with rice or roti.
