Nepali fish curry
To prepare Nepali mahi (fish) curry, you can follow this simple recipe:
Ingredients:
- 500g fish fillets (mahseer or any white fish)
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 tablespoons mustard oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Clean and wash the fish fillets. Marinate them with turmeric powder and salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Heat mustard oil in a pan until it starts to smoke. Then, reduce the heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
- Stir in chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Place the marinated fish fillets into the pan, coating them evenly with the masala. Be gentle to avoid breaking the fillets.
- Cover the pan and let it simmer on low heat until the fish is cooked through (about 10-15 minutes).
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve the Nepali mahi curry with rice or roti.
